Arsenal have agreed a fee with Sevilla for French defender Sebastien Squillaci.

The 30-year-old centre-half is due to arrive in London on Monday for a medical before completing the formalities of a £6million transfer to the Emirates Stadium.

"Defender Sebastien Squillaci is tonight travelling to London to have a medical at Arsenal, the club he will be transferred to after an agreement was reached pending the results of the medical," confirmed a statement from the Spanish side.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been on the lookout for a new central defender after allowing William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre, Sol Campbell and Philippe Senderos leave during the summer.

Laurent Koscielny arrived from French side Lorient in July but Wenger has openly admitted his need for at least one more centre-half.

Squillaci, who has played for Toulon, Monaco and Lyon in France, missed Sevilla's Champions League play-off against Braga last week in order to remain eligible for a new club in European competition.Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
